If it's not one thing, it's my mother

I’ve never posted here about my mother or my family really, for that matter. It’s not that I haven’t thought about it or that there haven’t been blog-worthy family incidents. Oh yes, there have been blog-worthy incidents. Some friends have suggested there have been book worthy incidents. Rather, I’ve not posted about them because there’s always so much to tell and so much background that I’ve simply chosen to avoid it, fearing the lengthy, ranting, and/or emotional post that would result. Well fuck it. I need to lay this shit out here, so to speak, if for no other reason that to have a place to document things as they happen from this point forward. However, the “full” family story/drama will have to be in bits and pieces because it’s too much for one mere post.

I’ll start with the latest installment. My mother was hospitalized last night for severe depression.

does she know that depression is a side effect of uncontrolled diabetes, possibly from eating ice cream? sorry, not trying to get in your business, i'm just sayin'

Eeesh. So sorry to hear about this, Cheeky. I can't even imagine what it must have to be like to parent a parent, so to speak. (Well, I can, b/c my parents are aging, but not in this kind of situation.) I hope that you're getting some ice cream for yourself at this point!

Oooh, sorry to hear about this, both the present episode & the continuing saga. No advice here, just a sympathetic nod. You try to take care of yourself these days, you hear?

comment by Lorianne at 09:06 PM on 08.04.05

lol @ Shirley's name... But how frustrating that she and/ or your brother didn't even contact you!

comment by bright star (b*) at 09:24 PM on 08.04.05

God, Cheeky. I cant believe this is happening again.... But I CAN believe that C. Shirley didnt tell you. typical.

comment by Advice At Your Own Risk at 09:46 PM on 08.04.05

This is harsh... when our parents get sick, family dynamics go to hell. I hope that other sectors of the family (not Cunt Shirley) will be supportive of each other as you all deal with this.

comment by camicao at 10:35 PM on 08.04.05

So sorry to hear this! That's a tough situation.

comment by cousineddie at 11:14 PM on 08.04.05

oh, and i forgot to mention earlier that i'm sorry, it is really terrible what's going on... i'm sure there's more to the story than i know. i hope your mom is well and out of the hospital soon.

comment by geeky at 11:25 PM on 08.04.05

sorry to hear about your Mum, what a difficult situation for you to deal with.

comment by Helen at 10:47 AM on 08.05.05

Oh, Cheeky, I hope things turn around, and as for C. Shirley, well, she's just what you've called her. I hope that your mom gets better soon and that you are doing okay handling this.

comment by russianviolets at 03:12 PM on 08.05.05

I so empathize, Cheeky. Both in terms of your reluctance to write about family, and having a parent with serious mental illness.

Oh, and in having a C for an aunt.

I hope for peace upon you and yours.

comment by lucyrain at 04:14 PM on 08.05.05

Yuck! So sorry, Cheeky. I empathize completely. My mother is the crazy cat lady. She won't be treated, 'cos that's drugs, man.

comment by Another Damned Medievalist at 04:53 PM on 08.05.05

Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope that she gets the treatment she needs. I also loathe the family members who are only there to "help". Uggh.

comment by chica at 05:06 PM on 08.05.05

I'm sorry to hear about your Mom Cheeky - I hope it all turns out OK. I'm sure it will with your love and support. Just don't give up! There's always a way :)

comment by OliverBrave at 05:20 PM on 08.05.05

I have LONG suspected that my mother suffered from depression and I have certainly encouraged her to go speak toa therapist at the very least. She won't do it.

Instead, she makes the three Snidge kids deal with it...

Ah... parents.

Hopefully the Turtle won't talk about his crazy ass mama when he gets older.

comment by Snidget at 10:44 PM on 08.07.05
